What can be placed into the coffin?
Depending on what type of funeral you opt for, will determine what you can place inside the coffin or casket with your loved one.
There is a simple guide below on what is or isn't allowed, if you have any questions about any items, we are here to guide you as much as possible.


What can be included:

Clothing made of natural fibres (cotton, wool, linen)

Soft toys, letters & unframed photos

Simple wooden rosaries or religious tokens

Biodegradable items like paper and cardboard
What can not be included? (By Law or Crematorium Policy)

Metal or glass objects (Jewellry, watches, Mobile phones)

Batteries (From Toys, Watches, Hearing Aids)

Pressured Containers (Perfume bottles, Lighters, Inhalers

Plastic or synthetic materials

Treated or varnished wood items

Alcohol
Why?
These items can produce toxic emissions, damage crematory equipment or pose a risk of explosion.
Note: Some Jewelry can be cremated but families are encouraged to keep sentimental pieces.

Burial

What can be included:

Most Personal items including jewelry, letters, photos ,and favourite belongings.

Clothing, Soft toys, and keepsakes
-
Treated wood, or metal lined coffins are usually acceptable (Depending on burial site)
What may be restricted:

Hazardous Materials such as sharp objects, glass,(anything that could cause harm to gravediggers)

Anything likely to leak toxins into the soil
Note: Rules may vary depending on weather the burial is in a church yard, council cemetery or private plot,
its always best to confirm the burial grounds regulations.




Eco
What can be included:

Biodegradable clothing (Linen, Hemp, unbleached cotton)
-
Woven shrouds or eco friendly coffins (willow, seagrass, bamboo & cardboard)
-
Natural floral arrangements (No foam or plastic)
-
Letters or Items made from paper, wood or natural fibres
What can not be included:
-
Embalmed people (Not accepted on many green burial grounds)
-
Plastics, metal, treated wood and synthetic fabrics.

Non-Compostable items such as balloons, glitter or laminated paper
Why?
Green burial sites aim to return to person that has died,naturally to the Earth with minimal environmental impact.
